LK Advani, former deputy prime minister, was present at the special CBI court today for the Babri Masjid demolition case. Another BJP veteran, including Advani, was also accompanied by a large number of senior ministers Murli Manohar Joshi and Union Minister Uma Bharti. The Special Court of the CBI has refused to exempt them from court attorney as part of the Babri Masjid demolition case. The three leaders were charged with criminal conspiracy in the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, 1992.
However, in 2001, the CBI court liberated these three leaders from criminal conspiracy charges. The Allahabad High Court upheld the verdict seven years ago. The latter became a hot topic again after the Supreme Court made it clear that Advani, Joshi and Uma Bharti could not be prosecuted and that these charges would face trial.
